Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

I already had a new case to upgrade my PC into, but now arriving soon are:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
  • Noctua NH-L9x65 Low Profile CPU Cooler
  • WD Green 960GB SN350 NVMe SSD
  • Pioneer BDR-S13U-X

Yes, I bought the sexy black $300 Blu-ray drive. I said I went all-out, okay? The key things are that it's got a lot of noise dampening, it's compatible with UHD Blu-rays, and it's compatible with MakeMKV's LibreDrive system (bypasses all firmware-based DRM systems without actually having to reflash your drive's firmware at all, best of both worlds).

Didn't feel the need to upgrade PSU (it's already 650W), nor GPU since the main purpose of this upgrade is to speed up video encoding and I do all of my video encoding on the CPU. And the monitor I'm using currently is a 1080p 60Hz panel so I wouldn't benefit from a 3080 anyways.

Oh I also spent $65 on more Grindhouse blu-rays and ordered a $30 2-disc set of the Star Trek: The Motion Picture soundtrack from LaLaLand Records. It was really hard to resist the urge to spend $130 on that site, they had a lot of soundtracks I've been looking for for ages (like the extended release of the E.T. soundtrack! I thought it was out of print forever but they have a reprint for sale right now! It better fucking be there when I'm ready to buy it!)
