Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

  • He/Him

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

Just said "fuck it" and spent $300 on the remaining Star Trek stuff I don't yet own. This mega purchase includes:

  • The new 4K of Star Trek: Insurrection
  • The new 4K of Star Trek: Nemesis
  • The Complete DVD set of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
  • The Complete DVD set of Star Trek: Voyager
  • The Complete Blu-ray set of Star Trek: Enterprise

I already own the individual season sets of DS9 Season 1-3 and Voyager Season 1, but buying each individual season, as cool as I find that old packaging to be, is both financially dumb and surprisingly difficult - paradoxically later seasons become more difficult to find on eBay, you'd think it would be the inverse. Who's out there selling off their Season 1 discs but holding onto their Season 4 discs?

Anyways my Stupid 20-Year-Old Financial Tip of the Day is to make big purchases sting less by putting them on a credit card and immediately making a payment for half the amount. The total here is $333.46 for all of this, so as soon as that posts to my card I'll dip into my Savings to make a payment of $173.46, then I'll only have to worry about paying off $160!

Also make big payments so you basically never have to pay interest. I try to always shoot for $50/week, minimum. At this point I've run a couple thousand bucks through my cards but have only paid a buck or two in interest because I pay off my balance faster than they can charge me interest. Those credit card companies never know what hit 'em!
