I know Zip 100 was the OG and the one everyone thinks of when they think of iomega Zip disks, but can we take a moment to appreciate Zip 250 and 750?
Increasing the capacity to 250MB was already pretty good but the 750MB disks in particular are downright amazing for the time, like 100mb more than a CD-RW with all the convenience of random access? That's damn impressive. Unfortunately it was too little too late to save the platform but I have a Zip750 USB drive and a box of 10 disks and it still proves surprisingly useful, not the least because it's fully backwards compatible with 250 and 100 disks (although it can only read the 100s)
I'm not kidding when I say that when I was filling out government forms for passports and driver's licenses a couple years back, I stored those sensitive PDF files on a Zip750 disk. Because you know what's even more secure than an encrypted file on a USB drive? A file on a platform nobody even has the hardware to read off.
