Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

Nobody could come to a concise answer on any of the threads I could find covering the issues present in DS9 and VOY, so I decided to make a new one with very clear goals, asking for the best method to achieve them. "I want to produce a 480p output that intelligently and accurately switches between 30p and 24p for the correct respective moments."

The first response was a guy telling me to deinterlace everything to 120fps and to only watch it on a 120Hz display because 60Hz displays don't divide 24 evenly.

As I was writing the chost above, I got notified of another response.

This guy's answer to my question is "I don't like variable frame rate. Deinterlace everything to 24p."

in reply to @pendell's post:

variable framerate is sort of a nightmare to work with so i get where he's coming from at least, but "if you can't be helpful just shut the fuck up" is a lesson the tech enthusiasts never seemed to learn

Anyway, I can't speak to the framerate thing but imo yadif is the best way to deinterlace footage. I'm not that familliar with handbrake but the ffmpeg argument you wanna tack on somehow is -vf yadif

Handbrake does have a yadif filter built in. But I'd probably end up going with something fancy like QTGMC, if I'm able. Looks like nobody knows what to do with this so I'll just spit it all out to 60p probably.
