If I ever started taking YouTube seriously, I always considered it would be fun to actually use the kinds of equipment I would probably end up making videos about. I don't want to call any retro tech enthusiast hypocritical, but the nerdy obsession with the old stuff seems just a little insincere when it's clear none of it plays a role in their video production, even when it easily could.
Screw that. Catch me recording my videos on a DV camcorder, recording my audio onto a reel to reel tape recorder. Transfer the DV footage, deinterlace and upscale to 1080 ProRes so YouTube won't annihilate the quality, capture the analog audio as PCM for editing, once you've got those into the video editor it's just like working with any other footage.
And yes I would go through all of that extra work just to try and justify all the time and space I waste on this old tech by forcing myself to actually use it for something. But c'mon, it would be fun!
