Have you ever been in a gas station or corner store and seen their display of chargers and cords for sale? It's fucking absurd.
I frequent a nice gas station chain in my area called QT (QuickTrip) mostly just for snacks and fountain drinks, but they also have a little kitchen and can cook up some surprisingly decent food.
They have a small section near the registers with some charging cords. Standard 6ft length, they're braided which is nice, but that's not some super deluxe luxury thing... But they sure price them like it is. Not kidding, each one of these cords is on sale for 30-35 bucks. For a single 6ft USB-C or Lightning cord.
You can go across the street to Ross Dress For Less and buy a cable from a real brand like Anker in a 2-pack for 10 bucks.
It's this way at every gas station I've ever seen. I wonder what the strategy is. I suppose, since they're gas stations and rest stops along highways, they're betting on people in a rush who don't have time to shop around panic-buying the first cable they see. You're on the road, hundreds of miles from home, and your shitty frayed iPhone cable finally stopped working. You need to stop to pee anyways, and you see the gas station you've stopped at has a charging cable! Nevermind the price, you're just happy to get one at all.
If that's the entire consumer base for these cables... That must happen a lot more than I think.
