Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

I posted that chiropractors aren't complete frauds and recounted a story about how my dad had fucked up his back so bad he could barely walk, his kids had to support him and walk him into the clinic, and with one well placed crack the chiropractor fixed him, immediately. He was sore for a few days mostly from the muscles being strained as a pain response for days, but then he was fine.

And someone replied with "well what if his back injury was actually just psychosomatic and it was a waste of money?"

And. Like. Yeah. What if, man. What if.

In general chiropractors are unfounded and dangerous, and anything they do could hurt as much as help…

But, they do sometimes help. To the degree that there are legit clinics out there that are not just chiropractic-practices but licensed physical-therapists as well. This shouldn't be discounted.

The problem with chiropractic-practice is that it's dangerous and there are a lot of bad, if not outright harmful, techniques as part of it.

Likewise, when it works it's arguably in part due to a failing of the greater healthcare system for failing to address a real issue. Those techniques that do work should be studied, and understood, and incorporated into general practice; yet instead the whole field gets written off for its (understandably dubious) origins.
