Parked right outside an overpriced private parking structure, next to what I thought was a city-operated parking meter. It was very hard to see the screen through the heat-melted plastic, but I was able to make out a very reasonable rate - about $1.75 per hour, or thereabouts. I selected 1 hour on the meter, and inserted my credit card.
I then got a notification for a $10 charge. I assumed that this was one of those temporarily higher than normal charges that some things do, which would later come down to the real rate before posting to my card. Well, it posted to my card today, and it's still $10. I'm considering contesting the charge, but I don't really have much evidence to back it up? Like, if I really wanted I could drive back out to Dallas and find that exact parking meter again and take pictures or something - but I'd certainly spend more than $10 doing so.
Also, looking up this company, it's definitely a private parking company for whom this rate seems fairly normal. So what the fuck did I put my credit card into? Was it city operated or private? Why are parking meters allowed to just lie about the prices? I'm not even that mad about the money I'd just like to know what exactly the hell happened here
