Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

  • He/Him

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

Immediately dislike the Wonka trailer.

  1. Begins with Timothy Chalamet doing a Gene Wilder reference, and he has that really fucking annoying "I'm doing a reference that you, the audience, are going to get and enjoy" actor face that makes me want to punch any actor who does that.

  2. Is Timothy Chalamet trying to go Wilder or Depp with it or is he trying to strike some bizarre and unadvisable middleground between the two.

  3. The entire world being as bizarre and magical as Wonka is Incorrect. What made the factory so whimsical in the original was its contrast to the normalcy of the world outside of it. It was like stepping into a completely different universe. This significant key to the magic of the original film and story has likely been lost due to Burton not having any self control and making the same mistake in 2005 that this one seems to be making right now.

  4. Expanding on the previous point, Wonka making magic candy when he's like 22 is nonsense since in the far future he's just making like Normal Chocolate That Tastes Really Good. Like whatever the hell a Scrumdiddlyumptious bar is, it didn't seem to possess any supernatural qualities. this trend of "famous IP origin movie" all seem to suffer from just creating an alternate universe because they can't be fucked to tell a story that actually adheres to what it's meant to precede (see: Maleficent, Cruella)

  5. The Hugh Grant deepfake oompa loompa is horrific and fucked up and I would kill it with a hammer I can tell you that much.

  6. Why didn't they call it "Willy"? Come on guys. Name the movie Willy. You fucking cowards.
