ok the one thing seriously keeping me from considering an e-bike as a serious replacement for my car is the fact that I live in Texas. The current forecast for the upcoming week says it will be 105°F (40.5°C) every single day.
Also my work is very small so I can't realistically store a bike inside the building while I'm at work. I could chain the bike to a pipe right out back and bring the battery inside to keep it in a safe temp range, but then I'd be concerned about the bike being rained on during cooler months and generally exposed to the elements. Especially if I've removed the battery and the contacts are exposed. Maybe I could get, like, a tarp to put over the bike? I don't know...
All of these problems wouldn't exist if everything in my town wasn't designed solely for cars, of course.
