I use Windows 10 on my new PC I built a few months ago. It's got an AMD Ryzen 5700X (8-Core, 3.4GHz) at its heart, and lately Windows Update has really got to pestering me about the 11 upgrade, because my machine is compatible.

The only reason I've abstained so far is not fear of change - I'd get used to whatever UI fuckery Microsoft's done in a day, max, and I honestly like the change to rounded corners and some of the updates they've done to individual apps - but because I've heard from friends that AMD CPU's still have performance issues on 11. And considering the main reason I built this PC - and bought this CPU - was for video encoding, I'm not keen to take on a performance hit.

However, I have read conflicting reports on reddit more recently of same or even slightly better performance on AMD in 10 vs 11, although they're all totally anecdotal and I haven't really been able to find any solid tests or benchmarks that are truly recent. Anyone else have more knowledge on this than me?

Hard for me to imagine it's improved, when most core apps (Task Manager, Explorer, Notepad, Snipping Tool) all are noticeably slower in 11 than they were in 10. Intel CPUs basically have to be on 11 because of the P+E cores, but :/ I realize it's more anecdata, but yeah, 5900HX in one machine and 11's just laggy garbage

Cool. If so I'll probably just hold out until Microsoft kills 10 or upgrades my machine without my consent in the middle of the night (unlikely given if I leave it running overnight at all it's doing Work Tasks and I disconnected it from the internet, otherwise I turn it off before going to bed)
