Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

look at him! he's black!

Black CD-Rs were a trend for a hot minute in the 90s and 2000s entirely because a lot of PS1 games came on black CDs. It doesn't affect the laser's ability to read them in any way, and as it turns out, also doesn't effect their ability to burn them! Memorex notably produced a lot of black CD-Rs, but those are common, you can still find them online for a song like most CD media. But these... Are interesting.

Putting aside they're CompUSA-branded, they're mini CD-RWs. I wasn't aware the black disc trend ever made it to the 8cm discs. But even more compelling, these are rewritable. Now, I was almost certain black CD-RWs were never a thing. I always assumed the black dye and the rewritable dyes conflicted somehow, and it was too difficult to produce them. But here it is. In 8cm format, from CompUSA of all brands.

Now, I haven't actually tested these. Maybe they suck, because black CD-RWs were truly a bad idea. But I suspect they'll work just like any other disc. Only one way to find out!
