Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

  • He/Him

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

  1. I told him to download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool and then just said "when you run it it should download Windows and set up the flash drive for you." he got back to me saying he saw the flash drive in his boot options but it wouldnt boot... i was ready to ask questions regarding boot settings like Legacy Mode and Secure Boot, but then he asked "should i run it first?" He had not run the Media Creation Tool. He had downloaded the exe and then copy-pasted it to the root of his flash drive.

  2. i had him download the AMD driver installer. while it was running, he said the screen went black. i said this was normal when installing graphics drivers, and he should wait. 25 minutes later he asks if it should still be black. i tell him the usual steps, unplug monitors try all the other ports bla bla bla... he comes back and says "ive swapped around both cords and no change". i go "... both cords? babe?" he sends me a picture. he has run two cords from his graphics card to his monitor. he has them connected twice. i dont,,

  1. after making sure he's only running one cable from his monitor to his PC, i tell him to try plugging into the motherboard outputs. he reports back with an image showing that the stabilizing springs of his I/O shield are hooked into the video ports preventing anything from plugging into them. i cant really blame him for this one, PC's have been designed by assholes for the past 20 years and we live in hell. this shouldn't ever be something anyone should have to worry about or consider when building a PC in 2023. but here we are. i told him to get some pliers and snap the fuckers off.
