Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

They do this with like 3 different things so at this job you have to keep 3 different regularly rotating passwords in mind. You know what's great for opsec? Having to write your passwords down on sticky notes to remember them. That's great for security. Our store passwords are printed out of a label printer and stuck onto a receipt printer. There's about 5 layers of label printer sticker piled up now. It's great.

One of our systems that had a 45 day password rotation couldn't actually accept passwords from my password manager, unless I turned down its settings to the point that I might as well just have been using "banana!#1" and incrementing the damn number every month and a half

At a job where they had us do this, my solution was to have a single, universal password (hypothetically something like 1Pas$word but long enough to be valid on its own) and then preface it with the date I last changed it and the system it's for, pulled right off the screen. So, the hypothetical would be something like September2023Administrative1Pas$word.

Tried to use this, just adding the current month to the password, but it inexplicably refused... because it inadvertently matched with something in the banned terms list, lmao, so I had to go with October.
