Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

ok but am I the only one who thinks of the DS Lite when they think of the Nintendo DS, and didn't even see an OG DS for a few years? It feels like even Nintendo themselves saw the original model as an unfinished beta product and barely advertised it, but then after the Lite model launched you couldn't go a full day at the time without seeing an ad for it.

unrelated but I went through like 2 or 3 DS Lites when I was a little kid entirely because that little sliding power switch would just Die. Like the rest of the console would be fine but the power switch would stop power switching. It sucked.

Then I got a DSi XL and I still own that fucker today and it STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL BATTERY THAT LASTS HOURS. It never broke bc they replaced the sliding switch with a regular button that never broke.

I do appreciate the clunky cyber-y2k aesthetic look of it, but it also looks way flimsier and more breakable than the Lite, which looks like a robust Brick you could lob at somebody's head and it would still work.

Yeah the only problems with my XL are some scuffs in the plastic and the hinge is a little loose. Like in the normal open position it kinda flops back and forth a little more than it should if you let it. Honestly probably something that can be fixed by opening it up and tightening some screws but I'm lazy haha.

I'm one of the very few people who got an original type DS at launch and somehow kept it all the way through the life of the system without breaking the hinge. The buttons on the DS Lite just don't feel right to me by comparison. Unfortunately, the original screens are so dim and are now failing with lines as well
