Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

if this Zip 100 parallel drive I've got on order is broken, then I'm gonna give up on Zip and try to get some magneto-optical stuff. Optical seems to be where it's at for reliability and stability in high-density removable storage, and magneto-optical is basically like minidisc but for data (Data MD doesn't count), and I believe dates back even earlier than Zip ever did, so it could definitely still be used for interfacing data with old computers. Also they look cooler.

From what I understand SyQuest was basically swappable hard drive platters, which iomega also did with their Jaz drive lineup. Haven't heard much about click of death from Jaz drives nor SyQuest offerings - though I have heard SyQuest's final product line, the "EzFlyer" was unreliable and cheaply built in its own ways lol
