I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

like "pop music" in that modern, bland sense even back in the 60s, that's what 90% of their music sounds like to me. Every band was doing that sound at that time.

Even as someone who mostly believes that, I have to say

Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club is the standout for me. It's like the first time those bland little white boys had actually done any kind of real drugs (psychedelics) and it blew their minds so immediately that they had to go and set to work on the most musically creative thing they would ever produce.

Like it's not the most mind-blowing album in existence or anything but it's really fun and full of energy and has a lot of unique musical ideas to try out and sounds so different from everything else they did.

Revolver is bland, Revolver is Yellow Motherfucking Submarine one of the most ironically funny mind numbingly dumb songs I've ever heard that's cute but sounds like it was conceived by a seven year old. (so, like I said, pop music of today but in the 60s)

Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is like The Beatles' balls finally dropped. So it's interesting in that sense.

Anyways I'm stoned af so take this all with a huge grain of salt I'm might be completely shitposting.

i have a love/hate relationship with the beatles. like most of the music is really bland, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. it sounds like mass produced pop music and is almost always digestible. i think they get more hate for having fame than for any of their music. Abbey Road is my personal favorite for a lot of the same reasons you mention liking Seregeant Pepper. it has some genuinely new and unique musical ideas performed by people at the height of their ability and drug use. the abbey road medley is only ideas and all the better for it i think.
