Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

seems like a pretty straightforward preference for games that keep focused on the core thing they're trying to do and trim out any extraneous content. there's a lot of big popular franchise games out there that revolve around maximalist bullshit (hundreds of different enemy types! Infinite procedurally generated maps! More dialogue than fifteen novels! Ten trillion years of gameplay!) that appeal to more dedicated gamers who spend shitloads of time playing and want to feel that they're getting value for money but anyone pretending they're objectively superior or something is being ridiculous.

as someone who likes putzing around in a sandbox like Terraria there was a point very early on where each new set of armor or, idk, pet that does nothing but orbit wildly around the player was taking something away from the extremely simple core game, not adding to it.

I mean even in those puzzle games I play it's an extremely "I have absolutely nothing else to do maybe I'll spin up Picross" like I bought Picross S1-S3 for the Switch like two years ago and am about 1/4 into S2. Took me over a year I think to finish S1 because I played it so infrequently haha
