Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

  • He/Him

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

Thinking about how the film adaptation of A Neverending Story left out one of the primary traits of The Nothing, being that it is hypnotically alluring to the creatures of Fantastica, and there are several scenes depicting creatures willingly throwing themselves into oblivion - not only killed but wiped out of existence entirely. At one point Atreyu is stranded on the fading edges of reality and wanders an abandoned kingdom before hearing music, following the sound, and witnessing a procession march of magical beasts and creatures playing a funeral dirge as they march right into the Nothing, one after one leaping to their total obliteration like lemmings.

Wonder why the movie didn't have that scene.

The book goes so extremely hard and does not treat any subject with baby hands just because it was written for children - Michael Ende carried on the German tradition of writing fairy tales to traumatize.
