Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

  • He/Him

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

something that's as simple as ssh, but for video.

I realize this is a hard problem, however... monitors can now tell the OS their resolution, the fact that VNC/rdesktop can't custom request a resolution on a linux host, in any ipad app I've tried, is absurd.

all I want is a low latency, gui connection to the laptop 6" away from me with a different screen resolution than the ipad, but to support screen resolution and the full iPad display when connected.

if you have recommendations, please give me both client and server you are expecting. the app cannot suck more than the Microsoft remote desktop ipad app. but mostly I think we need something other than these, that isn't focused on streaming just games (my understanding of moonlight)

and honestly instead of compressing video it should just send elements and positions and I've just reinvented x11 forwarding, nevermind, but that's also not particularly good on ipad

i remember back when you couldn't get to the desktop except for killing the Big Picture Mode process but steam would keep streaming
