Acclimating to the extremely specific BBC cheapness of classic Who is not too dissimilar from acclimating to any other medium you're new to. It's like getting used to the specific cultural differences and style of anime - once you get used to it, then you can see the writing for how good it really can be, and then you can start seriously appreciating what the dedicated creatives behind it are able to pull off within their limitations.
Anyways I've been watching Season 19 - Peter Davison's first season as the Fifth Doctor - and goddamn Kinda is actually really great so far. They pull off some effects that actually surprise you like "whoa I didn't think they could do that given their budget was £50 and a ball of string" and the writing is genuinely compelling. Also surprisingly feminist for classic Who, the Doctor encounters The Old Wise Woman and is called and idiot and told to sit down and shut up and he just Does. Four wouldn't take that shit, but Five is just like "oh, well, alright then."
