I decided all the TNG films weren't canon the moment that Generations decided to have Picard learn over e-mail that his brother and nephew died horribly in a house fire at their villa. What a cheap and dirty trick to try and force some easy emotions or themes into your poorly-constructed script.

I kind of like "Generations" but I think they maybe forgot that there was an entire episode from the show exploring the notion that Picard had some profound regret buried in his past, and it wasn't "gosh I wish I could have settled down into comfortable domesticity" ~Chara
All the TNG films unfortunately seemed to water down the characters a significant amount to make room for laser gun pew pew space battle kaboom kerblam
to be fair, I think that was getting to be an issue with the TOS movies—they started going towards more action-movie plots, though that accelerated with the TNG movies. wasn't that partly Patrick Stewart's doing? I've heard rumors at least that he loved doing the pew-pew stuff.
Also, it ends with Riker saying that he always wanted the chair and literally nobody shrugs and says "grab it, man! We don't need it anymore..."
personally more distressing was the reveal that the officers' chairs were all apparently rolly desk chairs this entire time. It would've made the show much funnier if every time the bridge crew got thrashed about, all their chairs went with them.
Ha! I had forgotten about that. Now I want the episode where a minor collision while traveling causes a chair to bump someone, and that escalates through the episode into a ship-wide brawl.
Wow that's terrible I wish I learned this from the movie at least
