Having the Vulcans - a race driven by intellectual logic and tightly controlled emotions - be the only race capable of the Mind Meld, a tactic in which they make themselves more vulnerable to the thoughts and feelings of others than is possible for any other race in the universe, is absolutely fantastic writing.
