Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

  • He/Him

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

I brought this up on a lark a few minutes ago, but y'all wouldn't have vtubers if it weren't for furries.

Facerig plugged its kickstarter with ads bought on furaffinity back like, ten years ago now. They knew furries would fund it, and adopt it.

We bring this up with VR and VRchat now and again, but like. without FaceRig we don't get that early path to vtubing before other, better software caught on.

My housemate's been watching a lot of GDQ Hotfix videos; I'm delighted but not-so-surprised at how many speedrunners use pngtuber drawings of their fursonas, or VRChat bases that've been customized and converted into vtuber avatars, in place of where you'd expect to have a webcam feed on a stream layout.

(also back in 2015 I used the dog/wolf model in FaceRig to record myself doing a tutorial for a furry card game that was active at the time. we've come a long way, baby.)

I think the "be an anime girl" thing started the VTubing trend, but I wasn't too involved in that community so I wouldn't know really. My experience with FaceRig is people mostly used it to meme.
