Oh yeah had my first day at QT training today and it was fucking exhausting. Not, like, a bad experience, but I did not get to sit down once for the entire shift, I barely found time to grab something to eat (some of those shitty buffalo chicken bite things on the roller grills, which I as a currently on-shift employee still had to pay for at full price btw because QT is a great company and all that), and my legs still hurt.
They assigned me to "upkeep" which involves Just About Everything, you gotta sweep/scrub the floors, check all the cups, straws, napkins, load the roller grills, load the steamed buns, check the coffee and tea, clean all the counters, clean the doors, check and clean both bathrooms, and "face" all the coolers (bring items to the front, make sure the labels are facing outwards). That's not bad or too much work or anything... but they expect you to do this all in 30 minutes. When I tell you I was scrambling like a maniac... I got it all done in an hour. Which, y'know, in my opinion is a perfectly reasonable amount of time to do all of that. But I got marks for it and was instructed on how I can multi-task, which, yeah fair, but even still that's an extremely unreasonable timeframe.
The way they count change is really not as bad or weird as I was worried it would be. We practice it a lot and I think I've got it figured out. The really weird fuckin part is that the computer right in front of you that handles the transaction entirely... does not TELL you the change to give. I understand wanting employees to be able to work it out themselves but Jesus Christ it's a COMPUTER! I PROMISE THE COMPUTER CAN FIGURE IT OUT FASTER AND MORE ACCURATELY THAN ME!
Being stuck in the 1800s aside, the change counting is pretty straightforward. Total is $9.83 and they hand you a $20 bill. Put the twenty in the drawer, first you grab the change. Two pennies to make it .85, a nickel to make it .90, and then a dime to make it $1. That's $10, then another $10 makes $20. It's odd to count up rather than down but once you understand the basics it's just addition and simple fractions.
I do not want to be here but good lord it's better than being a salesperson.
