I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

My thoughts exactly! I was also really surprised how kind of graphic Ricky's death was. He was getting built up so much I knew they'd twist it somehow but damn, I haven't been that shocked by a death on DW maybe ever. It also left open the question of if he's also racist or if his reading history etc could've saved him
I've seen others say this, but his role seemed more interestingly subversive - whether he himself was racist is irrelevant. He is the closest analog to the Doctor that exists in the city, and while Lindy rejects the Doctor and resists him at every turn, the moment Ricky starts saying and doing the same things, she's absolutely fawning over him and praising his intelligence and wit. They only want to hear it from those like them.
But at the end of the day a racist person is a shit person. If they've already thrown an entire race under the bus, they'll absolutely throw "one of their own" under the bus as well if the need should arise, as Lindy does. The "Mummy paid for it" type usually see themselves as the most important beings alive and any act to preserve themselves is universally good.
That's a really really good point. I'll have to rewatch knowing the twist, I'm sure there's a lot i missed
Good lord I just realized that the Doctor saying he's going to get her out of there earns only more resistance and indignant anger and dismissal, but when Ricky The Perfect White Boy says the exact same dialogue the triumphant score swells and she's immediately put at ease. it was so obvious and I was too white to notice it haha
