Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

One thing that is really cool is that I am technically a "part-time" employee despite regularly working 40 hours a week, sometimes even making an hour or two of overtime. So I have the workload of a full-time employee but with none of the benefits, better pay, or consistent schedule.

My store manager keeps talking to me about the benefits he has as a manager too which feels super great. When I had jury duty earlier this month he couldn't help but mention like 5 times that he would love jury duty because the company would compensate him for the full day. That's cool man. Good for you.

You'll need to double-check, but I believe (from doing the research, years ago, to put together a payroll system) that Federal labor law says that hourly people working forty hours (might be slightly less) are definitionally full-time, though asserting that is a separate and non-trivial problem.

Yeah, I have no idea what that looks like on the ground, since fighting would probably take longer than you'll be there. But a lot of small shops want massive warnings when employees work thirty-five hours, because it's too close to where they need to actually treat them like people, so there's something there...
