Season 3 of Star Trek really should have opened with The Enterprise Incident, it's an infinitely better season opener than Spock's Brain.
Spock's Brain isn't the "worst" episode of the show that many hype it up to be, but it's definitely got severe tonal issues - Bones hissing out the line "his brain's gone" with the seriousness of a cancer diagnosis, the planet of the bimbos, DeForest Kelly trying to contain his laughter as he pilots Leonard Nimoy around like an RC car... It's weird, for sure. Whereas The Enterprise Incident is a lovely bit of 3D chess between the crew and the Romulans, with plenty of red herrings and bait-and-switches, and intergalactic political intrigue at the center! It would have been a much better foot to start off from, I can't understand why they didn't.
