Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

  • He/Him

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

There's also a discussion group you're free to join. Episodes will be uploaded as I compress them at my own pace, about 1GB per episode, both original and remastered versions (with appropriate audio tracks), and subtitles included in the file (you will have to open the files in another app that supports subtitles).

My goal is to eventually have all of TOS, TAS, TNG, VOY, DS9, and ENT up along with all the films.

Did I forget to mention I'll also be uploading special features at the end of each season? Because I'll be uploading special features at the end of each season.

As of April 2, 2024, all content promised has been uploaded and I consider the archive complete.

As I'll have TOS Season 2 finished by the end of the day, and likely have Season 3 finished next week, I want to make some of my personal choices in approaching this clear.

For TOS, I have been uploading both an "ORIGINAL" and a "REMASTER" version of each episode. The "ORIGINAL" includes the original effects shots from the 1960s and the original mono soundtrack. The "REMASTER" includes the CGI effects shots created for the HD release, along with the remade intro and the new surround sound audio.

For each subsequent show after this, I will only be uploading one file per episode, and where I am given the choice between an "original" soundtrack and a "new" surround soundtrack, I will always choose the original. Multiple soundtracks are offered on basically every release I've obtained thus far, and I wanted to make it clear which ones I will choose.

I have also been taking the original PGS subtitles and converting them to raw text subtitles using SubtitleEdit's nOCR converter. This hasn't been perfect, but it's the only way to get blu-ray subtitles into a .MP4 container without burning them into the video. I will continue to run this process for TAS and TNG, as they are both also being sourced from blu-ray and thus require the conversion. However, DVDs use a format called VOBSUB for their subtitles, which can be included directly in a .MP4 container without burning them into the image. So for DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise, I will simply include the VOBSUB subtitles, unaltered.

Speaking of these shows that I am source from DVD - they will be DIRECT DVD rips, converted to x264 MP4 files with as little quality loss as I can afford. They will NOT be upscaled under any circumstances, however they will be deinterlaced. Handbrake can handle the mixed media format of these series intelligently, deinterlacing both the film and CGI effects shots appropriately within the same file. As such, files will have a Variable Framerate, which most modern video players can handle no problem, but YMMV.

Lastly, I do intend to upload as many Special Features as I reasonably can. After uploading each season or film, I will follow them up with a rapid succession upload of the special features for those seasons/films. I've already done this for Season 1, you can see them right now by seeking to the pinned marker for Season 2 and simply scrolling above it. There's some fascinating stuff in there that I'd be remiss to exclude. Hell, you can't even get this stuff on the streaming services! Get it while it's hot!

Consider this a manifesto or whatever. Live long and prosper, man! 🖖

in reply to @pendell's post:

My TOS uploads are taken from the official blu-ray sets, which includes both the remastered versions (new CGI effects and 5.1ch audio) and the original versions (original effects and mono audio). I uploaded both versions so anyone can choose between them!

Ahhh, haha, sorry about that guy. He actually runs a much larger movie and TV piracy telegram channel (or network of channels) and he's the one who encouraged me to get into ripping stuff for telegram in the first place, so I owe him a bit and he can kinda be thanked for me deciding to do this project at all. He's a fine dude but he's very Edgy. Like the kind of guy to call someone a tr*nny but still consider them a friend. Different side of the internet entirely from where we spend most of the time :p

I think he was calling you a "fed" just because you use a full legal name as your telegram name, as a gag.

I told him to stop being an asshole to people I welcome into my chat that I own, though. He can keep that attitude and behavior to the stuff he owns and moderates. Sorry for the rude first impression. :eggbug-smile-hearts:
