* i would love to sit down Apple's UX team and ask them why they thought this in particular was a good change to make to my notifications drawer

* i really liked being able to, i don't know, see my notifications, and tell that there is more than one, and not have to do a weird swipe-from-top-then-swipe-from-bottom to check if there is more than only one notification

* it rules that i swapped from android because it just started randomly nuking my chat notifs and pill reminders and then like six months later apple changed the entire notification drawer so i can't keep track of my chat apps and pill reminders

* if you want to kill autistic fags like me you can just say so, Apple, i get it.

This user can say it.

* here, i took these when i was posting on mastodon. here's the three "settings" for how this space looks. Then look! I waited five minutes and the notifications are now "stale" apparently! I have to swipe up on the notification area to see my notifications!!

* a friend pointed out to me that this is probably all in service of making the lock screen look "way more clean!" and i think that observation is right on the money.

Gotta show off that wallpaper! but seriously, if you go to Settings > Notifications, you can change it. either to be even more minimalistic, or have the old list.

I kinda can't believe you went through the effort of making this diagram before checking to see if you could change it back? It's literally at the top of the Notifications settings. I suppose it's Apple's fault for being notoriously stingy on options, such that people just assume that the New Way is the Only Way, but honestly Apple hasn't been so bad about that for a few years now... But I do appreciate the effort tbh, this is a really cool illustration :)

It literally does not change it, I have no idea what you're talking about? The "list" option still dismisses old notifications randomly and forces only the most recent notifications to show at the bottom of the lock screen.

like, to clarify, the progression i show in the second image is with the "List" option you are referring to (the option at the top of Notification settings), which doesn't work the way iOS used to. It doesn't leave the list of notifications queuing at the top of the lock screen. It shoves old notifications into this weird secondary "drawer" after they get "stale" (whatever determines that)

I've thought about it and I think I do like this philosophy a lot more. As someone who never gets through their notifications, I really only want notifications I haven't glanced at to be on my lock screen. The secondary drawer is either easily expanded on the lock screen, or expanded by default if I pull down the shade while using the phone, so it's not difficult to find old notifications.

I think I used to be more of a notification completionist before I moved to iOS, but back then it was common that tapping on one notification from an app would clobber all the other notifications from that app, so I stopped relying on it as an effective triage list. That problem seems to have mostly disappeared now though. It would be nice to have an option to merge the notification center and lock screen back together, I can't help but feel like there's gotta be something for that...

What size phone do you have? on newer larger phones its basically impossible to reach up high with a thumb, which i think is part of why they did this. i agree its dumb but at least its easier to click on things
