The only times I've ever paid for faster shipping options is if it's like "Get it in a month for 2 bucks, or in a week for 5 bucks." Usually that's the difference between Media Mail and First Class Package, and I'm happy to pay the extra buck or two for the post office to actually care about my package getting anywhere.
Otherwise, I've never really felt any desire to pick the options like "Get it tomorrow by noon for $35," like I'm not that impatient and none of the things I order are ever that time sensitive (if they are then I'm probably buying it a month in advance). I simply would never have the desire to pay for express shipping.
However I would very much like to pay certain websites more if it meant my items actually getting properly packed.
I ordered 6 blu-rays from Amazon a few months ago and no shit they just crammed all of them into a brown paper mailer with no protection. The discs were all fine, thankfully, but every single case had some chips in the plastic or a torn slipcover. I've had to strategize orders at times, wondering if ordering something like a towel with delicate items would create natural padding since I know for a fact Amazon won't give a shit and will just toss everything into a box haphazardly.
I understand Amazon staff are overworked and underpaid, but I'd happily pay them like 3-5 bucks more per order for the "we actually take a few minutes to package your items as if we gave a shit about their condition" service, but they don't even give you that option
At least they do give you the option to actually put your item IN a box sometimes. I ordered a $250 UHD Blu-Ray player in January and they legitimately made me go and manually select the "actually put this in a box and don't leave it sitting on my porch in the retail packaging" option. Clown world shit.
Anyways one of the nicest things about ordering from smaller e-commerce sites and sellers is that they'll actually pack your things reasonably well. Like I ordered some fancy fountain pen and writing supplies from a site called JetPens and it all arrived perfectly wrapped and padded to all fit precisely snugly and safely in a small box, it was honestly beautiful. And they do that for free!
