Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

  • He/Him

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

A lot of my horror friends on Letterboxd seem to adore Pieces and it's apparently a bizarro unrated Spanish slasher from 1982 so I'm down. This is my first Grindhouse Releasing disc, bought new direct from their online store, and it's interesting in that it comes with a CD of the movie's soundtrack (I've heard the soundtrack is wild in its own right, so it may find its way into my FLAC collection)!

Apparently Grindhouse Releasing was founded jointly by a famous film editor and Sylvester Stallone's son?! Which is cool as hell. They have a reputation as "the Criterion of cult films" which is a little reductive of both Grindhouse and Criterion but you get the idea. They appear to be very indie, they only have about 20 or so releases under their belt, but each one is very widely acclaimed by the people who know of them.

If I dig this release I'll probably end up picking their releases of The Beyond and Cannibal Holocaust. I love The Beyond, and I've been meaning to watch Cannibal Holocaust for years!

As for the Scream Factory disc of Phantom of the Paradise, I started that movie once years ago and never made it more than like 15 minutes in, and I've always wanted to actually watch it. It seems to essentially be a cross between The Phantom of the Opera and The Rocky Horror Picture Show by ways of Brian De Palma in 1974. So it should be fun as hell.

Forgot to mention in the chost but I actually picked up the soundtrack CD a few months ago and have listened to it a couple times and it's a banger! So I'm looking forward to it, definitely.
