If you ever pick up the Scream Factory release (Blu-ray or 4K), it includes a second disc with the "Director's Cut" ie Blatty's original vision for the film under the title Legion.

For the most part it's the same movie but all connections to the original The Exorcist are stripped out and the subplot with the priest is also removed. But what hurts the new version most, I think, is the ending. There's... Nothing to it. I don't need the insane visuals that the studio inserted last minute, but at least those visuals offer some sense of emotional climax that's just... completely absent in the Legion cut. The movie just Fucking Ends. Abruptly. You get no sense that anything was resolved by the end. In contrast to the theatrical version, which at least feels like it has a proper conclusion.

I just think if you're a big fan of the movie it would be an interesting viewing experience to learn even more about the craft of one of your favorite movies!
