Russel T Davies sucker punched me in the face with that one, goddamn.
I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Happy International Worker's Day Slash Nothing Doing Birthday Day! I have some thoughts about this milestone, which you can read right here
I quit my job today. Inspired by Nothing Doing, I stole some office supplies before leaving for the last time. (Sadly there were not plants to nick).
Received my 60th Anniversary Specials blu-ray, so put the new S24 Ultra to the test watching Wild Blue Yonder for the second time since it came out. Damn, really is the best of the three specials imo, specifically because it's "just" a very good episode of Doctor Who.
There were some annoying stuttering issues that seemed to come from 25 not dividing into 120, but once I see VLC to enable hardware accelerated decoding and to match the screen frame rate to the content frame rate, that seemed to fix it. Looked fantastic on this little OLED and the speakers are very good coming from the G7! And it's got 512GB of storage so I could easily load an entire raw dump of a full season off Blu-ray and have hundreds of gigs to spare. Love it.
Also tested and verified the Samsung 3.5mm to USB-C adapter works just fine. I was slightly worried since Samsung doesn't sell it on their own website anymore and the Amazon listing still says it's for the S10 series, but thankfully Samsung hasn't broken compatibility or anything (yet...).
I'm not gonna switch my SIM and stuff into this phone until the case I ordered arrives, because carrying this $1,300 slab of glass around bare in my pocket sounds like a terrible idea. I did get the $10/month Samsung insurance that I intend to ride out until its end (I believe it said May 2027 somewhere in the settings), but I'd rather not put that to the test too soon.
I did also try applying the screen protector I ordered with it, but naturally a speck of dust got under it despite my best efforts, and when I tried to peel it up a little to get it out, I tore it, so I said fuck it and took it off rest of the way. Luckily it comes with two protectors, so that's another thing to do once the case comes in (tracking says Monday). Some guy I saw recommended applying screen protectors in a warm humid room - ideally a bathroom right after you've run a hot shower. Makes any loose dust in the air settle and cling to stuff, so stray particles are way less likely to fall on the screen as you're applying it. Sounds a good idea as any. If that one fucks up too, I might try one of the tempered glass protectors I've seen recommended. I just do not like daily driving a smartphone with no case or screen protector. Bad bad idea.
Last thing I need to be concerned with is the lack of removable storage. Again something I can deal with - 512GB is probably more than I've ever used on any phone in my life, so I'm not worried about running out of space, but I am concerned about it all being siloed on the device. So I need to get a tiny cheap computer to finish setting up my home NAS so I can set up some sort of local backup solution that I can run on a daily schedule, ideally on a schedule so while it's on the charger at like 2AM every day it just backs up any new files. I assume that's relatively easy to do. I am not giving all my stuff to OneDrive or Google Photos lol.
Good day! Just try to forget all the additional debt I'm in over this device. The camera is good, I tell myself, don't think about the price.
