[extremely normal about this] if you're designing a salamander girl the most important feature is the costal grooves.1 she needs to have these or else she's going to have trouble distributing environmental moisture across her skin.2 this is important for staying cool and clammy and continuing to breathe. a lot of salamanders don't even have lungs.3 actually write that down, we'll get back to that later. "no lungs," good. anyway you need to put grooves on her tail too. as to whether the tail is detachable, well, that one's up to you.

The costal grooves (also costal folds) are a series of vertical channels on the sides of the torso in most species of salamander (notably excluding newts), roughly corresponding to gaps between the underlying ribs.
