That's a mynah bird! They're really common in Melbourne. Apparently they're an invasive species, but I also just think they're pretty.

Okay that suddenly makes an old children's book make a lot of sense. There was a plot point from a kid's series I read once where the younger brother got a pet mynah bird named Uncle [generic name], and the bird went missing. And said younger brother has to be reminded to mention that the bird is actually a bird when giving descriptions to people to help look for it. Didn't expect to unlock an old memory but there you go, thanks!
