every so often i worry that i am getting too out of touch with youth culture, as I am 32 years old and no longer spend all day talking to middle schoolers (presumptively about math, substantially about not throwing things at other middle schoolers) but then I make my little monthly sojourn over to what I think of as the cool thrift store (because of all the untranslated manga they have) and then learn that on this particular tuesday the local college kids have the day off, which I can tell because I find that I have been trapped in a clothing-rack-trammeled human sliding block puzzle by about fifteen college kids all holding coffees from the same coffee shop which must have been a pretty cool coffee shop because I didn't recognize the cups at all. using my impeccable problem-solving skills (asking nicely) I maneuver my way out of their devious maze, edwardian day costume in hand. and you know what? it may be a cheap amateur-theater-slash-halloween costume but it actually fits me pretty well. MORAL: is the anime area 88 any good? they have a dvd of it there and I always wonder if I should pick it up.
