your tick number is the number of ticks you've removed from yourself since april 10th when i started counting

found one on the floor after taking my work laundry out of the dryer. i think that counts because i make the rules and the rules say your tick number should be as high as possible.

i had a dream that i found another but i think it would be cheating to count that one. it was another male though

good afternoon tick watchers. we are now one month deep into Tick Watch 2k24. as of today my tick number is 30 — an average of one tick per day. we’ve just started in earnest our reed canary grass herbicide season, so i would not be surprised if these next 31 days averaged even higher. stay safe out there!

UPDATE: i spoke too soon, found one more in the shower. tick number is now 31

Q: why count ticks?

A: it started out just for fun but today i remembered last year my coworker felt sick shortly after removing a tick, got tested for lyme disease (luckily she was negative), and then went though an enormous headache trying to get workers' comp to cover it since "she could have gotten a tick from anywhere." so it's nice to have a big red count up there on the whiteboard saying i've gotten 31 ticks at work and 0 ticks not at work. just in case.
