Power went out mid-souping just a few minutes after I added the water. Cannot believe I have been involuntarily forced into the danger zone. There's like a ten-dollar cut of pork in there. Utter desolation.

How do you even throw out a gallon of soup. I can disassemble it by straining, I guess? Am I just gonna pour a gallon of water and oil down the sink?

I hope your power has come back on and you have saved your soup, but if not: let it cool down so any fat solidifies, skim it off, then strain the rest into the sink. Your plumber/city will thank you later for getting rid of fats/oils/grease before it goes down the drain.
