Garlic mustard knots. You WISH you were a park visitor here between the hours of noon and one post meridian.


To make your own, first prepare knots of dough as you would prefer to (I like the King Arthur soft-baked pretzel recipe). As they’re baking, cook several handfuls of chopped garlic mustard leaves in melted butter (about six tablespoons was sufficient for these eleven knots, vegan butter worked fine in my tests). After about ten minutes, the butter should have taken on a garlicky flavor with a little something extra. Remove the chopped leaves (these can be chilled for later use) and pour the butter over the fresh-from-the-oven knots. “Yum.”
