The USDA recommends allowing one day of refrigerator defrosting per 4-5 pounds of frozen turkey, with no more than two days spent in the refrigerator once fully defrosted. Accordingly, one may now safely begin defrosting any turkey weighing 15 pounds or under to be safely prepared on Thanksgiving Day. If your turkey weighs in excess of 15 pounds, well, you screwed up, didn't you? I warned you, right? For weeks I've been posting about appropriate defrosting times, but who needs that, I guess??? You ruined Thanksgiving. You may as well toss that bird in the trash! Toss it all, for all I care! Your bland stuffing, your instant mashed potatoes, your canned cranberry sauce, canned gravy, canned green beans, canned pumpkin pie filling--who were you fooling with all this, besides yourself?
