So I THINK that we are looking at here in this sample of Lake Champlain’s water is:
On the right, a rotifer (Ascomorpha?) spinning around the sample, apparently disinterested in:
On the left, a cyanobacterial colony (Dolichospermum?), relatively tightly wound, about the size of a mechanical pencil lead tip, surrounded by:
A host of Vorticella(?) anchored to the cyanobacteria—the little translucent rounded-triangular bodies attached around it—which would repeatedly reach out with great cilial effort before their foot-stalk retracted, snapping them back to the immediate side of the cyanobacterial colony.
