I finished season 2 of The Boys and [long, rambling spoilers follow]
finally, a show brave enough to ask: what if AOC could make your head explode?
hey kids! do you like superheroes doing naughty things? that's fun, right? okay, now sit the hell down, we've got 8 hours of blackmail plots and women in refrigerators to get through here.
you see, Butcher is motivated by his loss of Becca, and Hughie is motivated by his loss of Robin, and A-Train is motivated by his loss of Popclaw even though he killed her, and Homelander is motivated by his loss of Stormfront unless she comes back as some sort of Darth Vader situation in the next season...
I do love that Stormfront's whole thing was whipping up violent nationalistic fervor, but then when the news comes out that she's literally a Nazi everyone acts shocked. also she is named Stormfront.
(not an ironic "love," I love it because fuck, people are like that)
I also deeply appreciate that most of the Supes wear their costumes apparently 24/7, and so do all their private dramatic scenes while dressed in gaily colored Spandex. it's like watching people get into a real fight at a Halloween party and they're too mad to remember they're still wearing the boggly alien antennae.
hey, it's Love Sausage! he was one of the 0.05% of characters in the comic who wasn't a total piece of shit!
Simon Pegg saying "jings" was also a fun LOOK, IT'S THE THING FROM THE COMIC moment. as was giving Butcher a visit with his hideous dog that humps everything, which was definitely the right amount of Terror and we did not need more.
the child actor is doing about as good as a kid his age could do, by which I mean, he needs to have fewer lines
unironically I appreciate how far the show was willing to go with the fascism arc as far as saying "YOU KNOW, LIKE REPUBLICANS." can't believe I missed the tweetstorms that must've set off.
oh no, I noticed how often Homelander's dark roots appear and disappear
sure does add suspense to a scene when one of the characters in it has the power "can instantaneously kill anyone." which is, like, at least 3 or 4 of the characters here.
they kinda nerfed Stormfront's lightning powers for that final battle
the unwritten action movie rule that a female bad guy can only be beaten up by female good guys. it's probably for the best tbh.
what is Queen Maeve's power? she's just really strong I guess?
finally, a superhero who vapes
