yes, eclipse glasses protect your eyes from the sun, but you still need sunscreen before pointing the entire rest of your face directly at the sun for several hours

I managed to avoid this by underestimating traffic and getting delayed to the point I only had about 20 minutes to get set up before totality happened. I do not recommend it as an alternative.
