how does my sister, who grew up with me in 1) Massachusetts, 2) an overseas military base, and 3) Washington State, have a flawless SoCal accent
then again I have what can only be described as the Nerd Accent so I suppose we both found our own cultures
completely disorienting to notice a similar phenomenon with my family, where they all speak with a slight but distinct regional accent now and I sound "normal". but of course, I'm the one who moved away 20 years ago while they stayed in the same place.
