while I'm at it (and somewhat repeating what I've said on rechosts):
The Empire left the exhaust port open on the first Death Star because it was an impossible shot. It was a two meter hole on a structure the size of the moon! The only reason the Rebels got it was because they had a guy on their side who could do magic! The Empire was arrogant to assume that there were no surviving Jedi and no one could ever rediscover the Force, but this was not a weakness just anyone could have exploited.
And Death Star II was fully protected by the shield generator on Endor! Again the real problem was arrogance - the Empire had protocol droids, they had Force users, they had everything they needed to establish relations with the Ewoks pre-emptively, and they just didn't bother because they didn't think "primitive" locals were worth their time. It was a bad decision, obviously, but it's the kind of bad decision that empires make.
Also Leia didn't literally always know Luke was her brother, she means that he always felt like family in a more general vibes way, which is why she felt safe kissing him, because she knew he wouldn't take it as a genuine sexual advance.
Chewbacca really should have gotten a medal though
