well, I have two more applications out now. (the job skills I've developed over the last few years are kind of specialized, so there's not a huge number of local job openings for the exact thing I do, but there's also not a ton of competition. if I start getting to where I'll take any nursing job, the numbers will look different on both sides.)

one is to a Big Company You Have Heard Of and the other is a government job, so that means they may get more applicants and move more slowly, but they're also maybe more PR/legal conscious as far as doing employment discrimination. hopefully. at any rate I needed to keep myself moving forward.

Huh, that's a good idea but a weird justification - you can use Teams on a phone and next to everyone has a camera on their phone. But I still agree with it to avoid judging candidates on their physical appearance (or on whether the background of the shot is a fancy home office vs. basement bedroom)

Good luck! I had great luck with a government job - in particular, there's certain kinds of automatic resume filtering they aren't allowed to do (at least in my state), so no issues with "ChatGPT said this person wasn't qualified".
