niche AF but ToxicXEternity's metal cover of Alien Manifestation is better than the original orchestral version.

This Year as covered by Shearwater. Anna/Cami-cat's cover of The Other Side, audio quality problems excepted. I know Cash's cover of I've Been Everywhere is a bit contentious. Not sure I know too many covers. I'd probably be murdered to suggest Colm McGuinness's cover of I'm Still Here... Does a band doing a new recording of their own song count?
Interesting, interesting - especially on points of contention! I'm going to have a wee listen.
Oh! P!nk's cover of White Rabbit is uh, I'd say up there, but that's a close call. I think if it wasn't for the instrumentals + general better audio quality I'd not be as willing to say it's better though.
I'm gonna be that guy and go with Cash's version of Hurt. Once you've heard it Resnik's becomes unlistenable.
Agree on this one, though I only listened to the original once and that gets some people really upset so I left it out >->;
Johnny Cash's version of Hurt is the most obvious answer to me
less obvious answer, Nolwenn Leroy's version of Tri Martolod is the definitive version to me

and since we ended up in France, the tribute to Renaud version of Dès Que Le Vent Soufflera is just hypnotizing, the track works absurdly well as an ensemble piece - the extremely different delivery and timbre make it something incredible
Type O Negative - Cinnamon Girl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehi7une6O4g
David Bowie - Waterloo Sunset https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GK47gCgDH-U
and the biggest glow-up of them all: Divine - Walk Like a Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFiqO0Qpa_g
I really enjoyed Disturbed's cover of The Sound of Silence. Adds a different vibe to the song than the original by Simon & Garfunkel.
I liked it too! I also liked their Land of Confusion cover, especially because the music video is a synthesis of Spooky Mascot Guy (a staple of 70s/80s metal) and edgelord cartoons from the 90s/2000s.
Yeah! Their Ten Thousand Fists album was my introduction to their music.
For me, putting aside video game covers, (i'd be here all week if i listed those) I gotta say The Protomen's covers of In The Air Tonight and Mr. Roboto are just so good. That whole album, The Cover Up is just full of great covers tbh. Their rendition of Danger Zone is pretty much tied with the original for me, and while I like their version of Because The Night, the one by The Midnight and Nikki Flores is the one I keep coming back to. That's about all I can think of for now, aside from the obvious ones that've already been mentioned
sincere answer: spec ops: the line as a remake of the heart of darkness. i'm not going to pretend that it's better than apocalypse now but the inclusion of the player as an active participant in the crimes against humanity you are watching and the fact that the game gets steadily less and less fun and you only see the end if you are doggedly determined to see it
and then giving you the option(s) for how walker responds to the twist? forcing you to make that choice of how to go past it? chefkiss
