furiously self-conscious about everything

i think the thing that fascinates and enthuses me about woodwinds is how simple they are, how easily they can be improvised

people have been making them out of stuff lying around for tens of thousands of years. who knows: may be even longer.

i think that if there's still archeology and museums thousands of years from now, homemade pvc flutes would probably delight mmusicologists studying the anthropocene. they'd probably love having them in their collections

i love technology which is resilient, cobble-together-able, improvisable, unreliant on global supply chains (obviously does not apply to pvc but applies to bamboo flutes and bone flutes), low tech but versatile and timeless, reasonably easy for an average person to make if they develop a little bit of skills. tech which is easily customizable to personal or cultural preferences. technology which is so simple it just gets reinvented over and over and by lots of different cultures, with cool little variations. the fact that there are musical instruments which fit this criteria (like flutes (and frame drums!)) is wonderful
