Gazelle Sport Solide, 1985 (modified)

An unstoppable 25 kilo battleship. It's got stainless steel rims, which can take much more abuse than aluminium, but without the rust of regular steel. The pannier rack is rated to carry the weight of an adult. It has a mudflap on the front, and a bumper on the rear.

It's incredibly comfortable. You sit upright with relaxed arms, rather than leaning forward. The gigantic size of it and the sprung leather saddle mean it glides over the road. It's so stable that they actually connected the brake levers together, in case you want to use one hand for an umbrella.

It has a clipboard on the handlebar, for your paper map, because GPS wasn't a thing yet.

It has a car key. You push a button on the fob, and the key flips out, and then you "start" the bike by putting it into a lock permanently bolted in place by the rear wheel. It's also got a plug in chain, so you can anchor it down.

It has never had a flat tyre, and probably can't.

until this last spring when I installed an e-bike conversion kit, added a cargo rack and mirrors, and replaced the wheels, tires, chain, saddle, and kickstand.

this is now barely a schwinn.
